how can I get email working?

Congratulations on the launch of your site. I wish you all the best with it.

To configure your email, log in as an administrator, go to the administration screen, and select: email settings

Enter the settings for your SMTP server, save them, then click on the test link near the top of the page - it should send you a test email.
