I would like to move all questions tagged 'meta' from draw3cards.com to meta.draw3cards.com, while preserving all the content that already exists on these questions. Such a tool would:

  1. Take a SE 1.0 data dump as input, and a criteria of questions to move
  2. Create users on OSQA for all the relevant users, if they don't exist
  3. Create the questions, answers and comments on OSQA
  4. And finally, it can also close the question on SE 1.0 and add a link "migrated to ..." on each question.

Is there such a tool, or something I can build on to create such a tool?

No such tool exists at this time, but this is an interesting idea. One thing for sure, we would NOT be basing this on StackExchange data dumps. Instead, we would likely base this on an OSQA data export.

I guess the idea is to allow a partial data export, and also to allow an existing site to do a merge or append import. We have done a large merge for two existing sites at DZone, so getting the correct export is probably the kicker.

Do you know how much work would that entail? Is it on the roadmap? Alternatively, could I help build such a tool myself?
