I've seen several Djano-based Stack Overflow-like apps:
How do they compare to each other? |

In terms of features, OSQA and Askbot are very similar, with a couple of extra features available in OSQA and not in Askbot, and probably vice-versa. Regarding soclone, is completely new to me, so I can't speak by it. But I don't know the other projects that well, so I can't make a very good comparison. In terms of maturity and stability, all I can say is that OSQA and Askbot share the same origins, although Askbot stayed more faithful to the origins, since almost all the codebase was rewritten by professional developers, sponsored by a well established company, DZone. OSQA is widely used by lots of websites, some of them belonging to big and well known companies. I don't really know any website that uses Askbot, or soclone for that matter, so I'm guessing it won't be easy to find feedback from other users. In terms of community around them, I guess that the "base" websites activity speaks for itself. Finally, your decision will also depending on what you're looking for, If you want a pure SO clone, for now you would be fine with any (I guess), but the OSQA path is to diverge from the pure SO look and feel in the future. |
This is a topic that generally yields little positive discussion. We are not here to take positions on the comparative merit of one FOSS project over another, and these projects are moving targets anyway! Any point we make today is likely to be nullified by some upcoming release of one or the other projects. In short, we are selling OSQA and don't have any position on whether it is better/worse/different from
<insert project name here>- we are focused only on making OSQA the best it can be.
