Currently OSQA does send email notifications with several problems that should be solved:
- message title does not contain the question:
- Current: "[osqa] New question on OSQA" - what's the use to see X messages like this in my inbox, instead I would like to see the questions.
- Desired: "[osqa] How do I ..? (new)" - append new/update/comment/answer after the question.
- logo takes too much space, try to read the message on an iPhone or other smartphone. Just remove it, or make it 1/2 and put it at the end of the message.
- html email template has really bad margins, lowering the readable message.
- background color: make it harder to read the message
- The important text (like question body for new questions) must be in the first 2-3 lines of the message, enabling the user to read about it using preview (this apply for many email clients)
As a guideline for design I would quote Antoine De Saint-Exupery:
You know you've achieved perfection in design, Not when you have nothing more to add, But when you have nothing more to take away.
