OSQA (www.osqa.net) is starting to have impact as a new open source Q&A system, but the project doesn't have a logo yet. It would be cool to develop one and make some graphics people could use on their blogs and OSQA sites.

Let's see if we can use OSQA to receive and consider logo ideas? This may be too early, since we don't have that much traffic yet, but let's give it a shot anyway.

You can use the "image upload" icon in the WYSIWYG editor to upload your logo ideas as part of your reply. Let's use one logo per reply, so we can then take advantage of the voting and commenting mechanisms to see who likes what. Please don't vote down if you don't like one unless you really feel a need to, but vote up for as many as you wish.

Rick, is this what you had in mind? The SVG file is available for download if anyone wants to play with it.

I think this one is pretty neat. Wider is definitely easier to work with than taller in most contexts. I wonder how it would work on a non-white background though?

Nice, like the colors!

What a cool concept! I really like it. I wonder if the idea could be made linear (having the letters all on approximately the same baseline, but with the tooltip styling on the Q and A like you have them here?)

Following is another idea. I think it work good without the penguin. Its Just kind of cute.

variation on that above concept

My idea is more about a concept to generate a logo than the logo itself, since I'm not a graphic artist or anything. So basically I'm thinking that we can play with the letters of the word OSQA.

So, you can read this either from left to right, Open Source, Questions & Answers, or from top to bottom, Open Questions, Smart Answers, kind of a slogan, with open questions as in "your questions are open and visible to everyone" and smart answers as in "you'll get great answers to your question".

Besides that, just ignore the shapes and the colors etc, it was just me trying to do something out of my own concept.

"Open Questions, Smart Answers" has a really good ring to it.

I like the idea a lot. I am almost done with a mock I have, I'll try to add that slogin, and upload the link/file

so - i have come up with a few ideas. Rick also gave me some suggestions, and I wanted to share them with you guys here, get some feedback, more ideas - maybe even fine tuning. I used Futura font type, as I felt it was the best after looking at many, many types. Rick suggested turning the "Q" to look like a magnify glass, so that was his idea and my rendition. In general, I wanted something simple, very adaptable, and would not bore you after a year or so.

It's neat looking. Very fresh and abstract.

(10 Mar '10, 17:55) rickross ♦♦

I find the shapes work really well. It is a bold but clear logo that I think has room for variations of itself. Something very basic like altering the colours during the seasons ?
