This is undoubtedly a very basic question but I'm having trouble understanding how to setup outgoing email for a an OSQA install on a site using Google Apps for email. At this time I've input one of my Google Mail users on the email settings page, and using smtp.gmail.com:587 as the server.

This is for a Dreamhost hosted site if that makes any difference in the answer.

Have you checked "Use TLS" ? Also, "site 'from' email address" must be your google email otherwise google won't accept it I think.

Yes. To both questions. But I'm not sure how to test it on demand now.

We should implement an email tester :-) Just use the "contact us" form. Use the link at the bottom of the page.

I don't have one...or I replaced it already with other contact info... :(

edit: restored it... (~/contact/)

Works perfectly now! Excellent, thank you! I only wonder how fast I will run up on google's email limitations.

Well, emails are sent out of the normal request/response cycle, so that would not add latency to your site, the problem is if google limits the number of emails you can send per day or something.
