I'm the owner of a SE 1.0 site, Merspi, looking into moving to the OSQA platform. One major way we've acquired new users is through unregistered users who will come back for more later and eventually register. I would like to have the ability to allow unregistered users to post very much like on StackOverflow (or blog comments style).

  1. Is it possible to enable this?

  2. If not, can we make this a feature-request?

Also, I noticed that even though you could type up a post and then register (I was typing up a question similar to this), it didn't work properly. I kept it all in the same window and everything (only automatically departed to MyOpenID to authenticate). At the end of the process, I had my new account but the question never popped up. I'm now typing this up a 2nd time a day or so later (another barrier to contribution).

Love the work so far - it seems to be even more promising than what SE originally offered, with the more important features rolling in (from what I can tell).

Any updates on this?

Hey Collin, welcome :-)

Well, that feature was temporarily disabled. This all SX thing caught us in the middle of a big architectural change and we left many loose strings around, as you can easily tell by the amount of bug reports this last few days, and I must admit that most of them are my fault, but they were also promptly fixed.

About that feature, it will be back soon, since the base stuff is already there, just needs a more concrete implementation, but we're currently working on the SX data dump importer. We'll be back to that as soon as we finish with this, is a promise.

So, will you allow anonymous posting ? Or, after posting the question anonymously, visitors will be forced to login ?

OSQA has a Burger King "have it your way" philosophy. When facing a choice like this, we'd rather make it an option for the site admin to choose than impose our preference on everyone. In other words, the choice to allow anonymous posting should belong to the site owner.
